Kronos: Day One

Apparently if you never use AUR a whole bunch of it accumulates in your wallet. Yesterday, while searching and clicking on new things, I hit the new neo-comm red store button. This resulted in several other clicks which eventually resulted in me getting a new jacket and a hair cut.

Considering my last jacket was cursed, it was time for a change anyway. And despite the "Replicant" vibe of this portrait, I'm rather pleased with how it turned out.

I'm away from Eve today, traveling on business. But I thought I'd take a few minutes to write down some of my initial thoughts on Kronos after a single day.

This is how you do an expansion. (Or whatever we are supposed to call them now.) There have been updates that have not changed the way I play Eve in the slightest, and there are ones that have changed everything. And while Kronos doesn't change everything, it does manage to shake things up in new and interesting directions. For one thing, Low Sec is now officially the Wild Wild West.

For another, you have to add Mordu rats to your overview by the way. That isn't automatic. So if you go wandering off looking for them and can't find any, make sure you have them checked. That seems to be a big deal. Personally I don't have any rats on any of my overviews, so I'm fine.

Patch days are funny. Everyone undocks in their shiny ships and struts around testing out all the new things. I tend to avoid PvP on patch day frankly. Everyone is twitchy, new things need to be absorbed and there are some new Meta wandering around that I'm not yet aware of. As any PvPer should know, there is nothing worse than a new unknown Meta slapping you in the face.

Just ask my fellow Frostians' that encountered a Worm yesterday. Despite repeated warnings to the contrary, god bless them, they continued to throw themselves at it. Our killboard has some rather silly red blotches on it today, but lessons learned and I would never think of stomping down on such enthusiasm. You learn by doing. Even if sometimes the lessons have to be rather hard.

I was very fortunate to get my hands on two of the new Garmur Frigates yesterday! Thank you, thank you to my donators, very much appreciated. I also "may" have a Mordu Cruiser waiting for me when I get back tomorrow. Fingers crossed. (All donations are considered and appreciated.)

I am very impressed with the new Frigate. I'll have a post coming up soon about it, once I have a chance to test it in fights. I essentially went Light Missiles, 36k Long Point, SE, Cap Booster, MWD (6,200 OH without links), DC, BC, Nano. I play tested it against three Frigates and it performs rather well.

The Gila, the Condor/Crow, and the Phoon are all amazing new models. The re-load timers are simply a thing of utmost beauty. As are the new stations, the JJ Abrams lens flare effects on the stars, and pretty much everything else about Kronos.

Some people are over-reacting at the number of Pirate Frigs in space. It was patch day, so of course everyone is bringing them out to play. But don't confuse the first few days for a new Meta. Pirate ships are awesome and they will be more plentiful, but that doesn't change the fact that they are also very expensive and they continue to attract attention. That won't change. And they'll start settling down into a more normal mode in a few days.

Other than that, we'll see what the long term consequences are. And what another patch brings with it in only six weeks! Sheesh.
