Scary New World

Today I thought I'd give the new "Concept To Vector" feature in Adobe Illustrator a test run. In the latest update to Illustrator there is a new generative AI feature that uses various platforms, like Nano/ChatGPT/Flux, etc - to generate fully editable vector graphics based on sketches, concept drawings, low rez images, etc. It is built into the program and uses tokens to use. About 40 each time.

The image in the top left is an original sketch of mine from one of my sketchbooks. Each of the other images in based on different settings and different platforms based on the original sketch. Again, each is a fully editable vector illustration.

So far I've been putting AI art into a pretty comfortable box. I've been using it simply as a "dumb" assistant who can sometimes help me figure out a creative problem. Or, more recently, can help me create more interesting thumbnails for videos that I would never be able to do on my own. Like the recent PvP Chat With Rixx Javix video series, in which Rixx is talking to a morning show of characters in a studio in Jita 4.4.

I'm ok with that because it is only being used for a thumbnail and I spent a good hour in photoshop making it not suck. And adding a Fedo to the desk. Also this is something that I cannot create on my own. Or if I did it would take me weeks and no one is paying me to take a week or two off and produce a full blown illustration of that image - just for a thumbnail. This is a good use case for AI. I used Firefly by the way and it cost me tokens.

I was fine with that box. But this vector/concept thing has opened that box in interesting ways and I'm still processing the implications.

Here's another example. Original sketch on the left.

Now what? I honestly don't know, I just discovered this today.

What are your thoughts?
