ANNOUNCING: New Eden Chronicles

Calling all writers and artists from the Eve community. Eveoganda Publishing (a non-existent company I just made up) in association with Rixx Javix, Mord Fiddle, General Stargazer and Drackarn are proud to announce our latest community project. New Eden Chronicles will be an anthology book series featuring fan fiction and fan art written and illustrated by our amazing and talented community, edited and selected by our team of editors, and designed professionally by none other than Rixx Javix. (or, Bryan Ward, for those scoring at home.)

And here is the bestest part of all, the entire book will be available to everyone totally FREE of Charge! That's right, we will be giving the darn thing away in glorious digital PDF downloads for everyone to enjoy. We're not asking for a dime. How cool is that?

Over the past eight years I've read dozens and dozens of wonderful fan fiction here in our community, from the amazing Pod & Planet Contest and beyond. So I was thinking, why not start to collect the best of these into an ongoing anthology collection in the very best spirit of short-story science-fiction collections? Why not indeed? To make it even better, we'll get some of our most talented artists to create illustrations and have a lot of purty pictures to look at.

Right now the plan is to have the book be bi-annual, but we are certainly open to making it happen more often if the support is there for it.

So how do you participate?

It's easy. Simply submit your original work of Eve Fiction for consideration to rixxjavix@gmail.com  Artists who are interested in participating should also send an email along to let me know you'd like to participate. We'll be collecting stories and working with each author to ensure the highest quality work appears in each collection. The final determination as to what pieces appear in each collection will be up to the Editors based on quality, originality, and overall thematic considerations. Any works not appearing in the first Volume will be considered for additional Volumes. It is not our intention to leave anyone out. This is purely intended as a showcase for the Eve community and not a vanity project for anyone. You get what I'm saying.

We're looking for stories that reflect the wide range of our community and of the universe of New Eden. Industry, War, whatever makes for an interesting and compelling story. However, we are only looking for short-stories or short novellas that are self-contained. On-going series are not in the plans for this anthology series.

Additional consideration will be given to original works, however that is not a requirement. We just want your best work, so if it has been published on your blog, or submitted to a contest before, it doesn't matter. Submit what you think is your best work.

I'm excited about this project and I think it holds a lot of potential. Let's take this journey together and see where it leads us?

I can't wait to read your stories.

Cool concept, and it's at least 150,000 $ better than some others!

Have you considered asking the authors from the Pod & Planet contest? Some really cool stuff can be read there.

I love the Pod and Planet contest, I've submitted and also judged for it in the past. I'm sure we'll get a lot of submissions from authors that participate in that contest.
While I totally get the concept... one thing I found, which I am sure you know more of than I, is to be careful of Titles... There are official Chronicles of EVE, but under a different exact name, and then there is the Chronicles of New Eden by Tryaz, an audio rendition of the official Chronicles... but... then I found this, New Eden Chronicles... gotta be careful 'bout Titles... LOL!

Are you looking for completely new works? Or can we submit things that were sumbitted to previous Pod and Planet contests and the like?

The title is only a working title right now, had to call it something until I think of a better idea.

I want everyone to submit what they consider their best work, doesn't matter to me if it has been previously used or not.

Have you worked out any kind of timeline and target publishing date for the first issue yet? Sounds like a neat thing. Will the PDF be in print resolution? Any specifications for art submission, regarding size/res/file types?

Would news articles, written from a roleplay perspective be considered? If yes, there's two i'ld like to submit!

I'd like to have the first book ready in January for publishing. I'm working on specs right now and will have those in a couple of days. And yes, the PDF will be available in both print and screen res versions.

As someone who dabbles in writing and has always dreamed of someday being a writer - I can't begin to tell you how awesome this project is to me. Looking forward to seeing the finished product!
I'll register an interest in this too as I have something that's right down its street. In fact EVE could do with a more formalised outlet for fanfic that exists outside the forums and that has the potential to become a more mainstream thing over a longer term.

There's no reason why EVE can't compete with the amount of fanfic out there for Halo, Mass Effect etc.

Exciting news Rixx sent you some short stories but I'll be finishing off a longer one very soon.

Does the person submitting a story need to be an active player, because if not I know someone who's ass I need to kick to contribute to this.
