You Don't Have to Like Me

I haven't written much this past week because frankly I have been swamped and for once it had nothing at all to do with Eve. I went the entire week without logging in except yesterday for Eve-NT practice on SiSi with our NT Team.

Every day I've been going into work and working hard at my new job which I am enjoying tremendously. Not only did I take a new job but I also took one where I felt I could make a real difference. This company is still in start-up mode and desperately needs my help. We run 12 addiction clinics in our state and we're looking to double and triple that in the next year. You've all seen the news headlines or know someone touched by the growing opioid epidemic, and we are the ones out on the front lines working to help people in need. So that's my day job now.

And then on top of that my evenings have been filled with other paying projects. Old friends and business contacts are popping out of the woodwork and everyone has a project they need help with. Which is all great news.

Except for some people. Some people hear about your good fortune and are not pleased. Nothing pleases them of course, they are critical no matter what is happening to you. These vultures are only out for drama and blood. I'm not going to mention any names because that is what they'd like.  Little people with little dreams of bringing me down. Which is sad really. Its sad because of how pathetic that kind of dream is. And sad because of how impossible that dream is. I am unaffected by you.

You do not have to like me. I'm not asking for you to like me. And while it would be great if we could all get along outside of Eve, out here in the real world - I'm not foolish enough to believe we all will. There are always a few bad eggs. I can't do anything about that. All I can do is keep moving forward.

I woke up this morning with a familiar pain in my arm. The weather causes it. I will probably have that pain for the rest of my life. It comes from the time I blocked an iron skillet that was flying thru the air towards my Son almost twenty years ago. You think you know me? You think you can sit out there and judge me? You cannot little man. My life, like any life, is a complicated and enduring mess. All I can do is try to survive it, learn from it, and strive to make the world a slightly better place for me having been in it.

I sincerely suggest you do the same.

Do you know what I do when the little haters try to get to me? I think to myself "Hmm, what I've been through would kill them", then I chuckle a little then forget they are there. Stay Frosty :)

Seriously. And well said.

I couldn't be happier that RL has turned around for you, Rixx. I've had minor issues of my own this last few months, but nothing like what you've faced. I can honestly say that I can point to your example to remind myself that family and health is what it is all about, and take the positive with me when I leave all the bullshit behind.

I took 2 weeks consecutive holiday this Yuletide season, the first two-week vacation from work I've taken in 6 or 7 years. 3rd day back I get my its-not-really-an-offer-as-you're-taking-it-anyway buyout papers. 26 years plus 5 days it will be when I leave the firm in June.

I'm taking the positive - I intend to take a 3 or 4 week summer road trip with the family once school's out - time to do it before the lads are working to much - and leaving the negative behind. I can live without the stress, the working overnighters and on almost every weekend. I am released from petty office politics, voicemail, conference calls, clients that have no idea of the effort that goes into our work and directors that have no idea what makes people tick. I will miss the people, the technical challenges, and the fantastic feeling of delivering project with a solid team. I will find other challenges to get that feeling, and have no doubt that more face time with family will return fantastic feelings of their own.

Thanks for being an example - a lighthouse to help other weary travellers find their way forward

I always remember this saying, and I'm sure you've probably heard it, but no laying on their death bed wishes they'd have spent more time in the office.

People always ask me, why don't you just start another agency? And my answer is always the same. I already did it once, I really don't miss the 80-90 hour work weeks, the immense stress on my body and mind, and the constant worry that comes with caring for your employees and their families.

Life is what is most important. You'll find it out here with the rest of us. It ain't always easy, but it can be incredibly rewarding.

Keep the courage my friend.

I've never understood why some people revel in the misfortune of others and then do what they can to spit on those same people when the tide finally begins to turn. Where's the empathy? These people must have so little love for themselves that they have to hate on everyone else no matter what just to make themselves feel better. Very sad indeed.

I wish you all the best with your new job and all those opportunities that are popping up. You've definitely earned a respite from all the bad stuff!

Thanks for using my photo of your Pod Pal as your entry header. :)

It astounds me. The anonymity of the internet really seems to churn the dregs from the bottom and their ability to vomit up hateful things.

I'm glad to hear things are looking up for you! Life is tough but it's the best game in town and we all have to play it, at least for a little while.

Looking forward to sipping bourbon with you in Iceland!

I'd recommend using 1-2 WCS every 6-8 hours as needed for pain and swelling. Take with plenty of water

Instead of "using" can I "take"?

I'm really happy the new job is not only paying the bills, but also proving to be a satisfying position.
