Universal Geographic

It wouldn't surprise you to know that I grew up watching a lot of nature documentaries and television shows. Wild Kingdom, Jacques Cousteau, National Geographic and many, many others. Not to mention things like Nova, In Search Of, and other scientific, weird, and often borderline shows about any number of things. These shows taught me a lot and my love of them has continued on into my life with Steve Irvin, the BBC, and more. They are ingrained into my brain.

And while I've flirted with the concept of documentary style Eve videos for years now, a few weeks back a lot of those early attempts started to come together in my mind. There was the totally fake Svipul documentary from last year,  the OMS doc, the Zombies doc and others. But those were often very specific things done for a very specific reason. And if you look back even further into my video library on YouTube you'll find even more examples. Heck, my first Eve videos were made fifteen freaking years ago now. So there have been a lot of starts and stops over the years. But this past year I wanted to re-focus on producing more video related content. I wanted to move away from focusing solely on my Eve art and branch out a bit more. And also grow my YouTube channel.

That's when Just posted a reward for a documentary style video about a system in Eve Online. Could be anything. And the light bulb went off in my head. As you all know by now, I don't enjoy doing things that other people are already doing. I can't sit in a chair and talk about Eve live, there are already a bunch of people doing that. It doesn't interest me. I have to try and find my own unique corner, in art, in this blog, heck - even in the way I choose to play the game itself. So the revelation for me was simple, what if I created a series of short documentary style videos on subjects in Eve Online that no one else is talking about. Not historical based stories. Not about the Fountain War, or big battles of the past. But about New Eden. As if a resident of New Eden might approach living there.

But mixed with a slight dose of humor and backed by the natural limitations inherent in the system. I mean, I can't do interviews with residents or anything like that. So I have to work with what I have. But that sounded like a lot of fun. And potentially, something truly interesting.

I started with my home system of Ouelletta primarily to fulfill the requirements of that reward. But also to prove the concept and see if anyone, besides myself, would find it interesting. The response has been overwhelming and I sincerely appreciate all the comments and feedback. Thank you.

I already have two more of these in the works, with ideas already noted for even more of them. I'm not going to rush them. They will happen when they happen. But they are in the works. And I'm excited about the subjects and I hope you will enjoy them as well.

In the meantime, be sure to like and subscribe to my YouTube channel.
