Let's Talk About AI

In this week's Pirates Corner I take off the Rixx persona and talk honestly and openly about my opinions about AI. Join me on a journey as I try to make sense of very complex and emotional issues that are critical to us all. And why my own feelings are nuanced and constantly evolving as things continue to change around us.

I watched a lot of videos and read a tremendous amount leading up to this session yesterday and, frankly, nothing I saw or read changed my mind much. People are passionately anti-AI, passionately pro-AI, and firmly entrenched on either side of an abyss. Those that council ignoring it are those that have established income streams, or work in industries un-affected by AI so far. And then there are those of us who are in both camps - both anti and pro. We might not have income streams that are not impacted by AI, I know I don't. In fact, I have very little income stream at all these days. And every job I'm applying for wants me to have experience with AI. So I can't ignore it from the safety of a lofty tower.

I don't have that luxury. But I do know this much, I have so far drawn a line regarding the use of AI in my own art. At least so far. This doesn't mean that I don't often talk with ChatGPT or play around with some new tools that pop up (like Adobe Project Neo, which is insanely cool), or use Suno to help me bring some lyrics I've written to life. I do these things and more, because I have to stay up-to-date and constantly learning. In many cases I have no other choice.

I hope you find the conversation interesting, illuminating, challenging, and hopefully interesting. Doing these Pirates Corners every week means they will sometimes lean into topics that aren't always Eve related.

Onward and upward.
