The team over at Just challenged us to create a piece of Eve art based on a famous artist. I've wanted to do something Eve related based on a piece of Roy Lichtenstein's art for years and years - so I finally had a reason to do so. I've been a fan of Roy's pop art since I was a young lad and his style heavily influenced me, as did the great comic book artists from which he pulled his own inspirations. Yeah kids, that is how creativity works.
For those not familiar with WHAAM! you can learn more at this link.
I tried to stay as true to the original as I could while also adding my own creative slant to the piece. Obviously some compromises had to be made regarding content and the Comet did not lend itself to the simplistic nature that Roy was able to achieve with his jet plane - so I went in my own direction. I also decided to break the panel in a few places which I think brings a more dynamic sense to the composition. But that is certainly my own opinion.
Will this end up for sale on my store? It might. It might not. I'm not 100% comfortable selling something so obviously inspired by someone else's original work, so it might just end up being a piece I keep for myself. We'll see how I feel about it later on. Plus I'm not entirely sure anyone in the Eve community would be all that interested in something like this hanging on their walls. The BOOM! Megathron piece I did in a similar style hasn't exactly sold a lot of copies.
Anyway, I had fun and I needed to get my groove back after a short break. Now on to working on Phase Two of the Eve Squadron's game coming soon from Titan Forge! Oh baby.
