Missing Fanfest

Since 2015 my Wife and I have been to eight Fanfest events in Iceland. During the Covid year we even traveled to Iceland during the Summer for a change of pace. That doesn't include Toronto, Vegas, Amsterdam, London, and an Alaskan Cruise we went on with other Eve players right before Covid started. That is a lot of travel in a decade based around a video game. And a board game. And while we'd love to be there in Iceland again this year, we really just need a break.

And it looks like we picked a good year for it, all things considered. It has been a long time since I stayed home and watched the festivities from afar. It is an odd feeling reading the blogs, the news, and seeing everyone getting prepared for the event and not being in the mix. Oh sure, I've been helping a few people with preparations, some art here and there, and explaining some things to a few people traveling for the first time - but it isn't the same obviously.

But this year was unusual in many ways and frankly, it still feels like we were just there. And while I'll miss catching up with our friends and making new ones - it does feel different this time. I can't explain it. But for some weird reason it just feels like we made the right choice. I'm not as upset about it as I thought I'd be. I feel strangely at peace with the decision.

Anyway. Just thought I'd mention this again since I hadn't written about this decision since January. We won't be at Fanfest this year. So have fun, be safe, and enjoy whatever blood-sucking adventures you get up to over there. I'll be watching the streams and waiting to hear about all the cool stuff CCP has in store for us all in the coming year.
